An important part of summer fun is having clean pool decking. Contractors in your area can find you the supplies and equipment you need to get this done.

When you start getting your pool deck ready to receive visitors, there are a few things you should keep in mind.  Following these few tips can help your deck look much nicer, and safer than the winter weather may have left it.

Clean-up Tips:

  • Precleaning
  • Gathering equipment
  • How to proceed
  • Things to consider
  • Other options

Precleaning

Wherever your pool deck is located, chances are there will be debris from the storms during the colder months.  You may even have a bit of local wildlife that pays your home a visit from time to time.  The first thing you should consider is cleaning up all this loose debris.  Most of the time, this task can easily be accomplished by just sweeping everything into a pile and disposing of it.  If you find this problem getting to be too much to handle year after year, pool decking contractors in your area may be able to give you tips on how to reduce the amount of debris that is cluttering your deck.

Gathering equipment

Most of the equipment you'll need to do the work yourself is simple household stuff.  Things like a garden hose with sprayer attachment, a 5-gallon bucket, mild soap with degreasing agent, and a
long handled scrub brush, also known as a deck brush.  Most of these things you might find laying around your house.  However, if you find yourself short on one or another of these, your local pool decking contractors will be able to help you get what you need.

How to proceed

This part is pretty simple. First, you should mix the soap in your bucket.  Follow the directions carefully so as not to waste anything. The next thing you want to do is spray down a small area, a 6' by 6' square is a good place to start. Then you dunk the brush into the bucket, slop the mixture onto the deck, and start scrubbing. Scrub a smaller area, perhaps 2' by 2' would be best, keeping the area wet.  Keep repeating this step until the job is finished.  You will most likely need to refill your bucket more than once, so be sure to have plenty of soap on hand.  If you do run out, a quick trip to the local pool decking contractors can get you more of whatever you need to finish the job.

Things to consider

Sometimes you find those stains that just won't come out with your basic scrubbing.  For these tougher issues, try pouring a bit of household bleach, onto the stain and scrubbing it into the deck.  Usually ¼ cup is enough to take care of the problem.  When doing this, remember to wear rubber or latex gloves as bleach can irritate your skin.

Other Options

If this method seems to be a bit too much work for you, or you just don't have that much time, you could try getting a pressure washer to do the job. Most pool decking contractors can help you find one of these, or even come out to do the job for you. Just remember not to get the nozzle of the sprayer too close to the deck, or you may damage the concrete.

So now you know how to get you pool deck ready for the nicer weather to come.  If you find yourself with any other question, get in touch with your local pool deck builders.  Melbourne is sure to have plenty of them willing to help you out.
